Area of operations consists mainly of mountainous rural habitats and coniferous forests. Main supply routes connect three major cities to the rural areas across a vast landscape. Nearby unused military air base should be considered when planning.
In 1995 towards the end of British intervention in the rebellion formed by Chechen nationals, an ambush in the city of Chervlennaya saw 13 British soldiers and 1 British diplomat killed. Behind this attack was one 'Sergei Imananov' a Georgian national turned Chechen Rebel force commander. Thus far, Imananov has evaded British intelligence forces. On Wednesday at 14:00 hours a contact in the Kharsenoy region of Chechnya reported sightings of Imananov within a small but well equipped militia force moving between the towns of Petrovka, Grishno homestead of Bashnya. As a result an MI6 directive has seen 6 Troop, E-Squadron, 22SAS on readiness to tackle the situation head on.
